So you thought you have found a great deal on backlinks? And the provider is going to get you plenty of themed backlinks pretty cheap? Hang on, you might be up for wasting your time and money as well as harming existing rankings.

Google recently made clear the Hard Facts about Comment Spam saying that its algorithm is smart enough to devalue your backlinks from comment spam. Imagine all those not-so-creative ways you have been told by backlinks providers to post comments on Blog Posts, Articles, YouTube videos etc.

The Webmaster Central blog post also went on to clarify what you should do to avoid allowing comment spam on your website and things you should do to remove such backlinks using Webmaster Tools.

Some people asked posted comments on this blog post asking if the comment spam can actually result in penalties by Google and the subtle reply was that yes it can probably affect your rankings. No, don’t think about harming your competitors by using this comment spam as it would not affect their rankings so long their website is complying with webmaster guidelines.

The bottom line is that we are left with nothing but to trust the more natural and constructive ways to get back links that adds value to the web. Linkbait?
